Who We Are
The Beth Chabad Israeli Community Centre is led by executive director Rabbi Israel Landa and his wife Rachel. Rabbi Landa descends from an esteemed rabbinical family in Israel that has a long tradition of community leadership. Both his father and his grandfather served as Chief Rabbis of Bnei Brak.
Rabbi Landa excelled in his studies, and received his rabbinic ordination from the central Lubavitch yeshiva in New York. Before his marriage, he was sent to Toronto, Philadelphia and Texas, to guide and instruct Hebrew-speakers.
Rachel Landa was born into a highly respected Chassidic family, and studied Education in New York. She was one of a select group of talented teachers chosen to travel to Australia and establish a Jewish high school in Melbourne.
After their marriage, the Landas were appointed by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, to develop the Chabad Israeli Community in the Toronto area in order to serve the needs of Israeli immigrants in the city.
Rabbi Landa’s heartfelt interest in the welfare of every immigrant and his devotion to the community is well-known throughout Toronto. His reputation as an exceptional leader extends even beyond the Jewish population; in 2003, he was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for his significant contribution to the community.
Members of the Chabad Israeli community are Hebrew-speakers from all different backgrounds, who enjoy the special warmth and Israeli atmosphere of the BCIC. The organization is blessed with a large and dedicated team of volunteers; Israelis who give wholeheartedly to the community they live in and love.
The Chabad Israeli Community Centre also maintains an office with a friendly staff dedicated to the welfare of the community and its members.
